About the project
“Clean Air Schools for Hong Kong”

Clean Air Schools for Hong Kong is a collaborative project between Clean Air Network and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Institute for the Environment to monitor indoor and outdoor air quality in schools of Hong Kong.

We want to educate schools to improve their knowledge, change behaviours and take appropriate actions to achieve cleaner air in schools.

Goals for the project

Data

Install Outdoor and indoor air quality monitors in school which will also generate an outdoor community based Air Quality Health Index to help the school to make informed decisions when the air quality is not pleasant.

Action

Adjust individual and school actions through action steps and a curated action plan designed specifically for schools

Education

Deliver a range of professionally designed environmental educational activities or curriculum to support development of STEM / STEAM teaching resources for teachers to talk about the issue of air pollution in their classrooms. This subject could be made more interesting and interactive with the help of data and relatable education.

Sustainability

Dig into some of the school’s existing policies and devise some mitigation measures for the participating schools to solve air pollution.

The website is initiated by Clean Air Network, paired with support from its youth branch: the Clean Air Student Council. By consisting of both youths and environmental professionals, the entire team curates contents that provide a unique perspective on the ever more pressing issue of air pollution.
